Festive Footprints – Arts and Crafts

Looking for some festive arts and crafts for the children to try over the holidays? Try this ‘festive footprints’ activity for some creative fun. The children will love it (they do at camp!)- just be sure to cover the floor so you can limit the mess made!

You will need:

  • Newspaper
  • White paper or card
  • Green Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Coloured paint or pens

  1. Start by preparing the area by putting newspaper down on the floor to limit the paint going everywhere.
  2. Paint the bottom of the child’s foot with green paint using a paintbrush. Alternatively you can fill a plastic container with green paint and get your child to place their foot in it.
  3. Once their foot is covered in paint you need them to step onto the piece of white paper or card, making sure that their foot is flat. You may want to lightly press on their foot for a couple seconds to ensure that the whole foot has touched the paper. (Young children tend to curl up their toes when placing their foot down).
  4. The best thing about this activity is you can be as creative as you like as there are several different designs. Your tree can feature one footprint or even two! So you may want to repeat the above steps.
  5. Whilst the footprint is drying you can clean up and then it will be time to decorate the footprint tree. To do this you can use coloured paint and finger paint spots (baubles on the tree). You can draw presents around the bottom of the tree or even put a star on the top.
  6. Once completed you can then hang them up on the wall or even cut it out and use as a design for a card. They would make great Christmas cards or even thank you cards for Christmas.
