5 Reasons to Learn English this Summer

Every summer, lots of children and teenagers from around the world head to the UK to attend a summer school. In 2011, we started our very own English summer school, XUK English. Our aim was to give our students a summer school experience through our brilliant English lessons but a taste of summer camp life through our brilliant range of activities on offer.

We are so fortunate that we have students returning each summer, some who have been with us since our first year and will be returning for their seventh summer with us this July…

What are the benefits of you learning English this summer?

1. One in five people can speak or understand English. It is the most commonly spoken language in the world.

English is our common language at XUK English too. All of our activities are delivered in English and our staff team will encourage you to practice your English with your new friends throughout your stay with us.Our English lessons are based around an exciting theme each week.

This summer’s themes include: Fabulous Festivals and Sensational Sport! We will also have themes for the day too in the past these have included CSI (Crime Scene Investigation). You will spend the morning learning vocabulary and interviewing techniques, spend the afternoon creating finger prints and learning how to inspect a crime scene ready for the evening activity… solving the camp crime!

2. Your knowledge of English can help you in the future with your studies and your career.

One of the many benefits of learning English is the opportunities that will open up for you. From a year abroad during your university years on an Erasmus programme, to easier communication with your overseas employees when you become a working adult. Our summer school gives you these tools through dynamic lessons. From games to role-play, we like to take our English lessons into the great outdoors too!

If there is something you are particularly keen to focus on, it might be possible to do this during additional intensive English lessons.

3. Learning English is fun!

Our English lessons are not dull and stuffy. You will be challenge you academically but through our engaging and exciting activities, you will learn and improve your fluency. Depending on your first language, you might be introduced to a new alphabet, rules and things such as ‘idioms’ which might not even translate into your mother tongue!

4. Experience an English culture.

There are very few experiences that will make you grow as a person in the same way that learning another language will. Whilst learning the language, you will be soaking up British culture – learning values, habits and a way of life different to your own!

Our weekly trips to London, Cambridge and other local towns will give you the opportunity to experience the British culture first hand and give you the chance to use your new vocabulary in real life situations! Each week you’ll have tasks to complete on the trips from quizzes about the sights you see to conversations to have with shop keepers.

5. Have endless opportunities…

By understanding and speaking another language, you will broaden your horizon. Whether you like to read literature or watch TV shows, you will be able to access so much more in the world!
