Summer camp, a place attended by thousands of kids and teens every summer. Each and every camper has their different reasons for attending - childcare for working parents, the opportunity to improve English in an informal setting or to gain independence skills away from parents. Whatever your reason for attending, summer camps can change your life...
We asked our campers and staff if XUK Camps had changed their life and here’s what they had to say...
Whether we come to camp alone or with a sibling or classmate, everyone hopes to make friends! It won’t be news to you if you have read our blogs before, but camp friends really are the best friends! Here’s what Charlotte, from Macao said: “If I had not gone to XUK, I wouldn’t have met such great friends from around the world! I will never forget them. Before I went to camp, I was hoping to make friends but instead, I got sisters!”
We like to think that our camps help our campers to discover new talents when they try new activities, but for Maya, from Poland, being in such an international environment encouraged her to do more than pick up a new hobby... “XUK motivated me so much to start learning more languages, I am currently learning four more! Thank you!”
Our campers range in age from 7 – 17 and not everybody discovers us early on in life. Tabitha, from Spain was 17 when she first came to XUK Camps. “I only managed to go to XUK once, because the first time I went I was 17. I absolutely loved XUK and if I found the camp earlier, I would have gone every summer! When I was at XUK for a week, I loved it and enjoyed every minute of it. I loved making friends from different countries and background who I keep in touch with. All the staff were very friendly and made sure you felt at home. There were so many activities to choose from. I got to experience being a leader for the younger children. If I had to choose a favourite memory I could not do that, I would have to choose everything! Thank you so much XUK!”
And finally, camp can change lives in our staff team too. Working at XUK Camps, is so much more than just a summer job. Megan, from the UK said: “Before coming to XUK two summers ago I knew it would be an incredible experience but I didn’t realise how life changing it would be! Within the first few days I could see a massive improvement in my confidence and I had started to trust my abilities a lot more. Camp is more than just running activities, it change my life massively with the friendships and experiences I’ve had along the way, I wouldn’t change a thing and I can’t wait for many more summers still to come!”
There you have it, the magic of summer camp is very special, so special, it is life changing!
