Timetables and Rooms at Summer Camp

As we get closer to summer camp beginning, some families will ask us if we can tell them which dormitory their child is in and if we can send them their schedule...

The operations and logistics side of camp is a huge job and involves lots of reports, spreadsheets and problem-solving skills. We work week by week at camp due to any last-minute changes, cancellations or late bookings. All of these can have an impact on dorm splits, staffing and groupings. We’d much rather give you an idea of what things might look like than send you incorrect or out of date information...

All three of our residential camps run in a similar way with the day being split into three main sections - the morning (timetabled activities at XUK Activity, English lessons at XUK English and electives at XUK Excel), afternoons (choice activities and the occasional themed session at all of our camps) and evenings (evening activities at all three camps).

We have sample timetables available for each camp to give you an idea of what the timetable might look like...

And you can find out timings of the day for each camp here: XUK Activity, XUK English & XUK Excel.

Dormitories...

Organising our campers into dormitories is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle! At all our summer camps, we have dormitories of different sizes, including individual rooms at XUK English and XUK Excel and lots of shared rooms from twin rooms to larger rooms.

We start of by splitting our campers by gender and then do our best to put campers with others the same, if not a similar age. Some of our campers will be coming with friends or family members who they have requested to share with, so we need to make sure there is a good balance of campers who know each other and those who do not in our rooms. Also, being so international, our campers need to communicate with each other in English so we like to have a mix of nationalities in our rooms to ensure English is being spoken.

Campers will find out which room they are in and who else shares their Dorm Leader when they arrive at camp... Exciting!
