Some of our favourite spots in the UK

The UK is a beautiful country, busting with history. Lots of our international campers spend time in the UK before or after camp and their parents often ask us if we can recommend places for them to visit. So here are some of our favourite places that you might like too...

South Coast

The south coast of England is a stunning place to visit. You have both the New Forest, one of the UK’s national parks and the Dorset coastline to choose from... There are lots of quaint villages within the New Forest, a wonderful green area where horses, cows and deer roam freely. It is a great place for a bike ride too with lots of places to hire bikes from available.

The Dorset coastline is a place not to be missed too. There are so many stunning walks a cliff top walk at Hengistbury Head to beach walks at one of the nations favourites, Bournemouth Beach. Grab an ice cream and enjoy the views of the Isle of Wight across the Solent.

Peak District

Another one of our stunning national parks is the Peak District where breath taking views are on offer. It is the perfect place to enjoy long walks or hikes and catch a glimpse of local wildlife. The rocky ridges are not too far away from city life too. A trip to Sheffield will give you a chance to explore museums including the Kelham Island Museum which covers the city’s industrial heritage.

Canterbury

Canterbury is a stunning city in the southeast of England in the county of Kent. It boasts architecture and world-famous buildings including Canterbury Cathedral, founded in 597 AD. Not too far away, you can also enjoy a family fun filled day at the seaside in Broadstairs or Whitstable – why not have some traditional fish and chips on the promenade.

Windsor

Windsor is home to the largest occupied castle in the world, Windsor Castle where our Queen likes to reside in during the weekends. Enjoy the English cobbled streets which date back to the 17th century and a walk along the river. There are also lots of shops on offer from high street chains to independent retailers.

Snowdonia

If you fancy hoping over the border into Wales, then head all the way to Snowdonia. Within the national park, you can find nine mountain ranges and over 100 lakes! For those of you who like adventure, there is world class mountain biking available, but If you want something a bit more relaxing, they you can enjoy the vintage stream railway. It’s likely that you’ll also hear another language too. Over half the population in Snowdonia speak Welsh.
